Overview
5 Crowns Scorekeeper ("the App") is a score-tracking utility for the card game 5 Crowns. It is developed and maintained by Randy Cox ("we", "us", "our").
We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your choices and rights.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version of the App is supported by advertisements served by Google AdMob, a service of Google LLC. Ads may appear as banner ads, interstitial (full-screen) ads, and app-open ads.
By default, AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) and other signals to deliver personalized ads. You will be asked for permission before any identifier is collected (see "App Tracking Transparency" below).
What Google AdMob May Collect
- Advertising identifier (IDFA / GAID)
- IP address and approximate location (country/region)
- Device type, operating system, and language
- Ad interaction events (impressions, clicks)
How to Opt Out or Manage Ad Preferences
- In-app: Open Settings → "Manage Ad Preferences" to review or change your consent choices at any time (available in regions where consent is required).
- Device-level: Go to iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking and turn off "Allow Apps to Request to Track."
- Google's controls: Visit adssettings.google.com to manage Google's personalized ad settings.
- Go Ad-Free: Purchase the $0.99/month or $9.99/year subscription to remove all ads and disable all ad tracking within the App entirely.
App Tracking Transparency (ATT) — iOS 14+
On iOS 14 and later, Apple requires us to ask your permission before accessing your device's advertising identifier (IDFA). When you first open the App, you will see Apple's standard ATT prompt.
- If you allow tracking, Google AdMob may use your IDFA to show you more relevant, personalized ads.
- If you decline tracking, you will still see ads, but they will be less personalized. No IDFA is shared with Google.
- You can change this choice at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
GDPR — European Union & United Kingdom Users
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies to our processing of your personal data.
We use Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to collect your consent before any ad-related personal data is processed. You will see a consent dialog on first launch that explains what data is collected and for what purposes.
- You may withdraw or change your consent at any time via Settings → Manage Ad Preferences.
- You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data held by Google. Contact Google at myaccount.google.com.
- The legal basis for ad personalization (where consent is given) is consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).
US State Privacy Laws (CCPA / CPRA and others)
If you are a resident of California or another US state with applicable privacy laws (Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, etc.), you have specific rights regarding your personal information.
Your Rights May Include
- The right to know what personal information is collected about you
- The right to delete personal information
- The right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights
Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
Under California law, sharing your advertising identifier with ad partners may qualify as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. To opt out:
- Use the Settings → Manage Ad Preferences option in the App.
- Decline the ATT prompt (or revoke it in iOS Settings → Privacy → Tracking).
- Purchase the ad-free subscription to disable all ad data collection.
To exercise any other privacy rights, contact us at github.com/randy-app.
Game Data Storage & iCloud Sync
Player names, game scores, and game history are stored locally on your device. This data never leaves your device unless you are signed into iCloud and have iCloud enabled for this App.
If you are signed into iCloud, the App uses Apple CloudKit to sync your game history and statistics across your personal devices. This means:
- Your data is stored in your private iCloud account, not on our servers
- Randy Cox has no access to your iCloud data at any time
- Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple
- You can disable iCloud sync at any time in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → 5 Crowns Scorekeeper
In-App Purchases & Subscriptions
The App offers an optional ad-free subscription ($0.99/month or $9.99/year) via the Apple App Store. Subscribing removes all ads and disables all ad-related data collection within the App.
All payment transactions are processed entirely by Apple. We do not collect, store, or have access to any payment or billing information.
Subscription management is governed by Apple's Standard End User License Agreement.
Third-Party Services
The App integrates the following services:
- Google AdMob — advertising (free users only). Google Privacy Policy
- Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) — consent management for GDPR and US state privacy laws.
- Apple CloudKit — private iCloud data sync. Apple Privacy Policy
- Apple StoreKit — subscription and purchase management.
When you purchase an ad-free subscription, all Google AdMob and UMP SDKs remain present in the app binary but do not collect or transmit any data.
Data Deletion
To delete your local game history, use the Clear All option within the Stats & History screen in the App.
To delete your iCloud data, go to iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → 5 Crowns Scorekeeper → Delete Data.
To request deletion of data held by Google AdMob, visit myaccount.google.com/data-and-privacy.
Children's Privacy
The App is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Google AdMob is configured to serve non-personalized ads only to users under 13. The App complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Apple's guidelines for apps suitable for children.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Effective Date" below and post the revised policy at this URL. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
